How does elphaba fly in wicked

When Elphaba uses a spell from the Grimmerie , she manges to enchant the broom, but doesn't know this until it floats up. Once she is ready to go, after making the guards let Glinda go, Elphaba flies up towards the ceiling, and after one last cry, flies away. The next time Elphaba is seen with it, is when she broke into the Emerald Palace, to set the flying monkeys free. After sneaking into the throne room, she leave it leaning against the back of the Wizard's machine.

When she is known that she isn't alone, Elphaba rushes of the broom, but the Wizard grabs it before she has the chance. He keeps hold of it until he holds it out for Elphaba to take once he has managed to calm her down a bit. Elphaba then keeps hold of the broom, until she is reunited with a now non-speaking Dr Dillamond, where she drops it to the ground.

Now enraged, Elphaba picks up the broom and stalks after the Wizard, who is rushing behind his machine. Elphaba keeps a tight hold of the broom, even when confronted by Fiyero , who is now Captain of the Guards, and two guards.

When the guards are sent away by Fiyero, Elphaba doesn't let go of the broom. When Fiyero turned on the Wizard, Elphaba still doesn't let go of her broom, but she does lower it, once she knows that Fiyero isn't a threat. Elphaba still keeps hold of her broom when Glinda enters the room. Eventally, she leave to fly off, with Fiyero. Sung I hope you're happy I hope you're happy now I hope you're happy how you hurt your cause forever I hope you think you're clever! Elphaba : I hope you're happy!

I hope you're happy too! I hope you're proud how you would grovel in submission To feed your own ambition Both : So though I can't imagine how I hope you're happy Right now Glinda : Spoken Elphie, listen to me.

Just, say you're sorry. Sung But I don't want it Spoken No. Sung I can't want it anymore Something has changed within me Something is not the same I'm through with playing by The rules of someone else's game Too late for second guessing Too late to go back to sleep It's time to trust my instincts Close my eyes and leap It's time to try Defying gravity I think I'll try Defying gravity And you can't pull me down!

Glinda : Can't I make you understand You're having delusions of grandeur Elphaba : I'm through accepting limits 'Cause someone says they're so Some things I cannot change But till I try I'll never know Too long I've been afraid of losing love I guess I've lost Well if that's love It comes at much too high a cost!

Spoken Glinda, come with me. Think of what we could do, together. Sung Unlimited, together we're unlimited Together we'll be the greatest team there's ever been Glinda, dreams the way we've planned 'em. Sung I hope it brings you bliss. Both : I really hope you get it And you don't live to regret it I hope you're happy in the end I hope you're happy my friend Elphaba : So if you care to find me Look to the Western Sky As someone told me lately "Everyone deserves a chance to fly" And if I'm flying solo At least I'm flying free To those who ground me Take a message back from me!

Tell them how I am defying gravity I'm flying high and Defying gravity And soon I'll match them in renown And nobody in all of Oz No Wizard that there is or was Is ever gonna bring me down! The actress also wears a skin-tight green bodysuit that blends seamlessly with the makeup. Here Alexia Khadime, the first black actress to play Elphaba, talks about the daily makeup regime:.

The actress playing Elphaba pushes a button, which causes a metal bar to encircle her waist and secure her to the platform. The bar is covered with the same fabric as her dress and the lighting cleverly obscures this movement from the audience.

Once the bar is in place, the lift raises Elphaba high above the stage. It makes for a dramatic finish to the first act, leaving the audience wanting more.
