The affected breast was operated on and removed. But the health worsened following complications resulting from the spread to other parts of her body. She was said to have been in coma for five days before she finally succumbed to the cold hands of death. Due to the illness, she was absent from office for almost two months, a situation that had started generating comments as regards her health position.

Her death has been seen as unifying factor for the people as politicians from different political parties come together to mourn her. As my dependable ally in the struggle to free Ekiti, she was a consistent bulwark of support, especially through the period of the judicial struggle to reclaim our mandate.

I was never in doubt of her unalloyed loyalty, competence and integrity. I shall miss her greatly. Her unique legacy is that active participation and high achievement in politics and governance should not exclude women. If I had to do it again, I would still marry her. We later travelled out of the country to the United States for further studies. There was never a dull moment in our relationship.

What I admire most about her was how she bore her cross with fortitude, with smiles to boot! When I learnt that she had battled with cancer for a few years, I marveled and admired her even more!

Not many of us can bear such a cross without sullen looks and deep bitterness against the whole world! She was a strong woman with formidable spiritual strength. She had a quiet brave endurance in the midst of the medical storms that assailed her. I guess she had to be strong because of both her parents, her loving husband and her wonderful children.

What an outstanding daughter, devoted wife and selfless mother! Her life and times remain indelible in Nigerian history and that of women achievers. Her life, though short, was purpose-filled and impactful. My heart and prayers go out to her parents, only God can comfort them. Having lost a brother, in the prime of his youth, I know their pain cannot be assuaged by human strength but divine solace. I pray that the Lord will carry them underneath His wings. As for the children, they have lost a gem of a mother.

I know of a truth that God will never leave nor forsake you. You had a wonderful mum who was beautiful inside and outside. We are assured that as a born again Christian she has definitely made heaven and we are encouraged that we shall meet again on the resurrection morning.
