Why netball is not in the olympic games
Please let us know. Search This Site. Major Events Extra The largest sporting event in the world is the Olympic Games , but there are many other multi-sport games. Such an exciting sport that now translates well to TV should have no problem with global reach.
Netball is enjoying solid growth across Africa and in other parts of the world such as Europe and South America, but while the sport expands across the globe it could also be said that it has failed to fully capitalise on its strengths in the countries where it has traditionally been most popular. Alas, there is no magic wand to be waved and the netball community must continue to push and promote this great sport. As ever, Kudos will do all we can to keep giving a voice to the sport of netball.
Netball sits in a really unique position, offering women and girls a safe place to play sport. Netball has been a core sport in the Commonwealth Games since , and it is therefore no surprise that the top 24 teams in the world are all Commonwealth nations. Ahead of every Olympic Games, the IOC gives the hosts the chance to bring in one or more sports on a temporary basis.
The following two Olympics to be held will be Paris, and Los Angeles, With all eight teams now in Queensland, the imperative is to draw Super Netball season to a conclusion and get the athletes, umpires, coaches and support staff safely home. While last year was incredibly difficult with the season played in a condensed format in Queensland, this year has been even more so, testing teams out in ways unimaginable just 12 months ago. Understandably anxiety levels are through the roof, with players operating well outside of their support structures.
If, as expected, the last three rounds are played at breakneck speed in Queensland, there will be players heading home from the hub who will not know what their future holds. With so many players who have moved interstate or from overseas to play, this is a critical time for them. This is not only an issue for the players, but a real risk for Super Netball in retaining the talent that has made it the toughest netball competition in the world.
With the English Super League in its contracting phase there are overseas clubs circling, and they have already contacted a number of players about plying their trade in England next year.
