Why does scott shelby investigate himself

Meta Twist : Quantic Dream is known for having the most saccharine endings for players who go the extra mile, which makes the fact that all of Norman's endings are bitter-oriented bittersweet endings and downer endings surprising, especially when the best case involves the player FAILING to do well. Missing Child : The Origami Killer kidnaps young boys, traps them in a pit that slowly fills with rainwater , and forces their fathers to complete a series of extremely dangerous trials in exchange for the chance to save their son before he drowns.

Some of the fathers are never seen again. Ethan Mars' son Shaun is kidnapped shortly into the game, forcing Ethan to undertake the trials himself. And he can fail them; there's a Bad Ending where Shaun is never rescued. You wanna score, man, you gotta fucking call first. Save the Villain : Madison and Jayden have the option of playing this straight or averting it. Shelby will still try to kill you , and flubbing the quick-time event will result in your character being killed at the last minute.

When talking about the killer, nobody can seem to say "origami" correctly either. Screw the Rules, I Make Them! The most notable is when he breaks the door of the apartment of Nathaniel Williams, a suspect of being the Origami Killer, and Jayden tells him that's a crime. Norman Jayden: I'm not sure that's entirely legal. Carter Blake: Call the cops.

Norman Jayden: Blake is trying to beat a confession out of Ethan Mars! You've got to do something! Captain Perry: Which is more important, Norman? Finding little Shaun Mars or sparing that lowlife a few bruises? You can't make omelettes without breaking a few eggs.

The Taxidermist. Alone with the Psycho : When Leland comes home, the player is trapped until they either escape or die. Always Close : No matter how long Madison spends exploring the house, Leland will always come back just after she discovers his "hobby". Backstory Horror : Though not required to play the main story, this DLC provides a great insight as to why Madison might have difficulty sleeping.

Foregone Conclusion : Since it's a prequel starring Madison Paige, only any of the last three endings where she survives are canon. Groin Attack : If Leland spots Madison, this is involved in one means of escape. If she escapes into the garage during the chase, she can choose to start the chainsaw and push it through Leland's crotch into his gut. Hunting the Most Dangerous Game : As a result of Leland's insanity and his work drying up, he now traps and pursues women before stuffing their corpses.

Living Doll Collector : Leland. Multiple Endings : "Sacrificed in the Name of Truth" — Madison calls the police, but is discovered and killed before escaping. Her body is found by the police, who arrest Leland.

She's declared missing, and Leland isn't caught. The police eventually arrive and save her and Leland is arrested. Kramer then has them knocked unconscious, trapped in a car , and dumped in a lake. Scott will always escape, but Lauren can die if Scott leaves her or takes too long to escape; whether or not she survives depends on Scott's actions. Either way, Scott launches a retaliatory assault on the Kramer mansion in " Face to Face " and shoots his way through Kramer's bodyguards to reach his office; if he succeeds, Kramer will have a heart attack after they talk, and Scott will have to choose between letting him die or giving Kramer his pills to save him.

If Lauren is still alive, Scott will briefly drop her off at Lexington Station in " Goodbye Lauren " and kiss her goodbye. It is revealed that he was actually present in the following chapters before it:. All of this evidence is seen during flashbacks in " Origami Killer " and thrown into a burning trash bin. It is implied that, during the course of the game, Scott's real goal was to obtain all the evidence from the victims' families in order to cover his identity, disguising himself as a private detective to get the evidence from the families by simply asking for it.

After finding Shaun Mars ' address in a secret room, Madison is held at gunpoint by Scott, who locks her in the secret room, flees the apartment, and sets the place on fire efficiently disposing of all evidence and the only witness at once. Madison will suffocate if she takes too long to escape the secret room, burn to death if she catches fire and fails to extinguish herself, fall to her death if she jumps out the living room window, or die in an explosion if the fire reaches the propane tank on Scott's desk.

Her only way to survive is to hide in the refrigerator or jump out of the kitchen window and escape the apartment. Scott will then appear at " The Old Warehouse " if at least one of the other three characters made it there. He may or may not die here. Then, Scott will get one of the following three endings:. Back on topic though, I fully understand him collecting and getting rid of the evidence from his past crimes but I personally found that to be the most confusing part of the plot.

Or did he plan on killing her too after Shaun was dead? User Info: Bloodlines Bloodlines 11 years ago 2 Gordi was copying him and he wanted to stop him. User Info: phantoms35 phantoms35 11 years ago 6 Let's not forget, Kramer owned the construction site where you know what happened to you know who. User Info: Saiyagame Saiyagame 11 years ago 7 holy crap lord voldemort is in the game????!!! So I wrote a retrospective review of this game. Avoid cutting your finger off?

How far into the game is the female nudity? Happy Birthday Trophy Issue? Tech Support. There are many moments in the game when the developers try to mask Scott's real intentions, and clear him from being a suspect in the eyes of the players: showing him as a loving, caring individual. Gordi's father talks about the boy that his son killed as being street trash, and Scott gets mad at him for that. With that being said, these are the moments that also establish Scott's dual nature: he doesn't hurt kids who have no parents or a stable father figure, since I think he considers them defenseless and weak, and identifies with them because he used to be that kind of kid himself.

Upon replaying this game, I found some nice, thought out, and crystal clear innuendos as to Scott being the culprit. For instance, if you let Hassan die at the store robbery, you'd get a scene where the shopkeeper confesses that he'd do anything to look at eyesw of the man who killed hjis son, and we're shown a qucik exchange of glances between Scott and Hassan.

It may be a cliched device, to an extent, but I still thought it was a nice touch. The developers however blow Scott's cover once, I don't remeber exactly:it was at Manfred's shop, if I'm not mistaken where in his thoughts they make him say something like: "Lauren thinks she's going to find the killer.

I think she's going to be disappointed". Heavy Rain is a really good game, overall, with a nice story if you don't overanalyze all its flaws and quirks. By the way, this could be the explanation for why he persecutes Gordi. Mind you, I understand that had it been a movie, it may not have been alll that special, just your everyday thriller, , but somehow making this into an interactive game brings a strong sense of intimacy and immersion. So, for the gaming industry, this title is a small triumph.
